Generally speaking, the replacement period of the cylinder seal depends on the working condition of the machine cylinder, such as environment, media, working time, etc.
Many users choose to replace the seals for 1-2 years to ensure the machine operate smoothly, even if the seals are still available. Because, once the seal fails,it will directly affect the operation of the entire machine.
In order to avoid the failure of the seal to affect the use of the machine, we need to understand what caused the seal damage and failure.
Jinbond concluded that there are generally seven reasons for seal damage:
Friction of the seal against the metal surface causes the seal to be subject to varying degrees of wear. This wear is accelerated by factors such as oily contaminants (especially metal particles), excessive roughness of the metal surface, and too tight loading.
(2) Squeeze deformation.
The seal liquefies under high pressure and enters the gap of the sealing surface. The relative movement between the seal and the sealing groove promotes this process, which results in complete damage to the seal, surface tearing, and plastic deformation. Add sealing gasket to avoid extrusion.
This type of failure can occur when using a lip seal, such as a seal in a hydraulic cylinder. It is characterized by a partial extrusion of the seal from the groove. When the hydraulic equipment is running, the pressure in the sealing groove is large. This pressure acts on the root of the seal, the root is worn away, and then under the action of friction, the seal is turned over and pulled out of the groove, so that The sealing lip is cut or broken and the seal is completely damaged.
(4) Cracked valley of lip seal.
The valley of the lip seal is a stress concentration point and is easily cracked when subjected to a pressure shock.
When the lip seal generates a large frictional force during motion, the entire seal ring or partial twist may be generated.

This is one of the main reasons for seal damage. The seal itself is eccentric, the sealing support surface is eccentric, and the mating surface of the reciprocating member and the seal member is subjected to radial load and the like, and the eccentric wear is slowly caused.
(7) Material aging.
The elasticity and sealing performance of the seal are affected by the period of use. The use period is too long, stored for too long or other reasons oxidized to become stiff, loses elasticity, and the sealing performance is weakened to varying degrees.
